Who are Bournemouth Foodbank, and what do they do?
In the face of rising living costs, it has become increasingly difficult for many families to afford basic necessities like food, fuel, and bills. The result is that more people are turning to food banks for help, and charities like Bournemouth Foodbank are stepping up to make a difference in the lives of those most in need.
Bournemouth Foodbank works in partnership with the Trussell Trust Group to provide more than just food. They work through referrals to get those in a crisis guidance and advice to help get back on their feet. With multiple food banks located throughout the area, they're making a tangible impact in the community, having 12,000 people accessed Bournemouth Foodbank in 2022.
“when I first started around 10 years ago, there were about 25 foodbanks around the nation; now, there are over 300” - Rebecca Payne, Warehouse Manager.
What did our team do on the day?
At Caspian One, we recognise the importance of giving back to our community. As a local business, we wanted to be a part of this noble cause, and we were thrilled to be able to help and volunteer our time.
During our volunteering day, we had the chance to meet the volunteers and tour the warehouse. Rebecca, the Warehouse Manager, shared with us the vital work that Bournemouth Foodbank does and how it impacts people in the local community. The Caspian One team built new shelving units donated to the Foodbank to store baby supplies and toiletries.
We also had the chance to check out the recently renovated café, which is not publicly open but is open to those collecting food parcels. Here, they can receive a free hot drink, and any money spent at the café goes back to funding the Foodbank. In the last few hours, we sorted the stock and displayed it on the new shelves, making it easier for the volunteers to navigate when new donations come through.
We left the volunteering day feeling inspired and fulfilled. We are grateful to Rebecca, Lauren and the volunteers for letting us participate in this cause.
