Why recruitment
Firefighter, Doctor, Astronaut, maybe? When asked “what do you want to be when you grow up?” you could expect one of these careers in response. “I want to be a recruiter!” - is much less likely, and yet…
Reports by REC (The Recruitment & Employment Confederation) estimate there are over 119,000 people employed in the UK’s recruitment sector alone; an industry now valued at over £38.9 billion in 2019 and continuing to grow - despite recent economic uncertainties and a global pandemic.
What it means to be a recruiter can vary, significantly.
Quickly finding staff a temporary or junior role with high turnover is an entirely different task compared to locating the BBC’s next CEO or the development project team behind your favourite financial trading apps.
For us it’s not about hitting ambiguous sales targets, sending hundreds of unqualified CVs or wasting hours in scripted phone calls.
You cannot ‘rinse and repeat’ generic email templates or act without understanding at the specialist level.
A successful career at Caspian One is built through nurturing relationships and delivering impactful, often life-altering value to our partners, clients and candidates - equally.
We believe the most rewarding recruitment careers require a consultant to become a true subject-matter specialist; owning their responsibilities, acting with integrity and demonstrating respect for the lives of others…

Career of choice
Capabilities recruitment can be highly lucrative and financially beneficial, but what makes it a 'career of choice' goes beyond earnings. It’s the satisfaction that comes from human interactions…
knowing that you’re making a real difference in people’s lives.
We are the intersection point within a network of businesses and subject matter experts (SMEs), meaning the actions we take can have wide-reaching ramifications.
For example, sourcing the right team for a client could determine the success or failure of their projects, if not completed correctly; potentially impacting that companies growth initiatives, competitive positioning or revenue targets.
We also have a responsibility to support the immediate and life-long career aspirations of our partners and SME resources; considering how career decisions made now, may impact them (professionally and personally), in the years to come.

Who are you?
When hiring, we look for people who demonstrate integrity, ambition and accountability.
People that invest and pursue continuous self-improvement, with an inquisitive nature and the confidence to ask the 'right' questions. Individuals who proactively aspire to achieve more in their lives; driven and tenacious - but still humble, ethically minded and resilient.
Experience?
Experience in sales, consulting or similar working environments is advantageous - but not specifically required. We're interested in who you are, rather than a specific set of 'must haves'.
What’s more important is your capacity for common sense, the abilities to qualify and comprehend complex technical subjects, credible people skills and a commercially aware, problem-solving approach to work.
Culture?
We are one team - our social culture reflects this, as does our operational approach. Caspian One is a company that recognises achievements, celebrates excellence, and promotes self-development.
Professionally we support each other, share our knowledge and work respectfully without barriers. From the Directors to the latest hire, our community is welcoming. Everyone knows each other, everyone interacts together and we feel connected.
Transferable skills
Many of those who’ve joined Caspian One and built lucrative careers, began with no prior history in recruitment.
Their backgrounds range from sales, estate agency, journalism and teaching to account management, HR, insurance and sports coaching. What they have in common (which we covet), are transferable skills that empower quick understanding of the recruitment cycle and adaptability.
Recruitment is not easy, there’s no underplaying this fact.
To succeed requires utmost focus and determination, the right mindset, common sense and a healthy competitive streak… these are traits not limited to only the recruitment sector.
Frequently asked questions
What is recruitment?
Recruitment refers to the process of identifying, attracting, interviewing, selecting, hiring and onboarding employees. In other words, it involves everything from the identification of a staffing need to filling it.
What makes a person 'right' for recruitment
To be successful as a recruiter, you should have resilience, tenacity and determination. As you'll be conversing with people on a daily basis, strong communication skills – written, verbal and active listening are essential, along with a methodical approach. Recruitment is not a numbers game but to achieve in this competitive market, being driven by targets and self-motivation is key… along with a sense of humour!
Is it not just... finding people jobs?
If only recruitment was this easy!
As a Recruiter, you are responsible for building long-lasting relationships with candidates and clients, gathering market intel, researching, spotting opportunities etc. It's much more than just a matching up game.
Are all recruitment sectors the same?
Absolutely not! Working in niche markets, our recruitment model is very different to many other sectors – after all, the approach you take to recruit a Senior IT Developer is different to the approach you would take to recruit a Cleaner.
Are recruiters office-bound, on the phone all day?
Much of their time is spent on the telephone at the desk, that is the nature of the role. However, our consultants regularly work remotely - travelling in London, across the UK and internationally to meet clients, candidates, and partners face-to-face.
What experience do I need to get started?
We're interested in who you are, rather than a specific set of ‘must have’ requirements. Experience in sales, consulting or similar working environments is advantageous - but not ‘be all/end all’. Caspian One has developed the careers of consultants with a diverse collection of backgrounds, from estate agents and telecom sales... to the hospitality industry, marketing and recent graduates. What we value is your willingness to learn, your dedication to achieving goals and a resilient mindset.

A business,
within a business
Consultants are granted the freedom, choice and opportunity at Caspian One to expand without limitations. To control their own direction and careers in a supportive environment that treats people fairly, professionally and equally without corporate hierarchy.
It’s you that determines the path you follow - but with that comes accountability and ownership; your own business within a business… if you like.
Become a subject matter expert, create and manage your own team - or remain an individual who is dominant in a niche market and reputable for that specialism within it’s communities. Win or lose, succeed or fail, it’s your mindset and motivation that will determine the route pursued.
The recruitment process
One comment we hear from nearly all new starters is how much they underestimated the recruitment cycle; there’s much more to it than just CVs and interviews!
The process of obtaining a new role or project to securing a new placement can take weeks and requires patience, resilience and close communication with all parties involved.
To better comprehend the steps involved, take a look through the stages of the process below.
“It's important not to underestimate the amount that goes into recruitment. From an outside viewpoint, you don't realise how much process there's to get your head around. That's just from a recruitment point of view, let alone needing to learn about the industry itself.
You also have to take control of your mindset early on. It's not a call centre or a micro-managed environment, but it is true the more you put in, the more you get out.”

Back in 2004, Marcus Graziano - a globetrotting and renowned lifestyle recruiter decided it was time to set down roots. His intent was to build a company that stood apart from the negative recruitment practices he’d witnessed throughout his career. A business with integrity at its core, reflecting Marcus’s own high expectations whilst being known for its people, genuine interactions and relationships we’d go on to nurture…
